Pipe Bursting in Springfield, OH

Pipe bursting sewer repair in Springfield replaces collapsed lines through small access pits, no full-yard dig.

  • 15+ Years local experience
  • 500+ Projects completed

Serving Springfield and nearby communities.

Pipe bursting pulls a new pipe through the ground while a bursting head fractures the old one outward. The new line follows the same path as the old one, through two small access pits instead of a trench the full length of the yard.

It's the call when a pipe is collapsed, severely undersized, or too far gone for lining. Springfield's older clay lots see this often enough that Springfield Sewer Pros keeps bursting equipment on hand for exactly this situation.

What's included

What's included with Pipe Bursting

  • Typically included — access pit digging at both ends, bursting head setup, new pipe pull-through, and connection to existing fittings.
  • Typically included — backfill and compaction at the access pits only.
  • Optional — pipe diameter upgrade during the pull if flow capacity needs improving.
  • Customer prep — mark sprinkler lines or buried utilities near the pipe path if you know of any.

How it works

How our Pipe Bursting process works

  1. Site Evaluation photo
    Step 1

    Site Evaluation

The old pipe path and surrounding soil are assessed to plan the bursting approach.

  2. Access Pit Digging photo
    Step 2

    Access Pit Digging

Small entry and exit pits are dug at each end of the pipe run.

  3. Bursting Head Setup photo
    Step 3

    Bursting Head Setup

A bursting head is attached to equipment that will fracture the old pipe.

  4. New Pipe Pulling photo
    Step 4

    New Pipe Pulling

New pipe is pulled through as the old pipe is simultaneously broken apart.

  5. Alignment Check photo
    Step 5

    Alignment Check

The new pipe's alignment and slope are verified for proper drainage flow.

  6. Pit Backfill photo
    Step 6

    Pit Backfill

Access pits are backfilled and compacted to restore the surrounding ground.

Materials

Materials and methods for Pipe Bursting

  • HDPE Replacement Pipe photo

    HDPE Replacement Pipe

Jointless pipe resists the root intrusion common where older Springfield lots have mature trees over the lateral path.

  • Bursting Head Tools photo

    Bursting Head Tools

Conical or static heads fracture old clay or cast iron cleanly as new pipe follows behind.

  • Hydraulic Pulling Machines photo

    Hydraulic Pulling Machines

These generate the pulling force needed for standard residential lateral lengths.

  • Pulling Rods photo

    Pulling Rods

Rigid rods connect the machine to the bursting head for controlled, steady replacement.

  • Fusion Welding Equipment photo

    Fusion Welding Equipment

Fuses HDPE sections into one continuous, joint-free pipe.

  • Soil Compaction Tools photo

    Soil Compaction Tools

Restores ground stability at the access pits once the pull is complete.

When to call

When to call for Pipe Bursting

Bursting equipment and pit placement calculations aren't a homeowner-scale job. Call Springfield Sewer Pros at (937) 504-6985 to get a camera inspection scheduled and find out if bursting fits your situation.

  • Camera inspection shows a collapsed or severely crushed section of pipe.
  • The line is undersized for current household or fixture demand.
  • Lining isn't viable because the pipe shape itself is too damaged.
  • You're replacing a full lateral run and want to avoid trenching the yard.

FAQs

Pipe Bursting FAQs

What's the difference between pipe bursting and pipe lining?

Bursting replaces the pipe entirely by fracturing the old one and pulling a new one through. Lining seals the inside of a pipe that's still structurally intact. Bursting is the fallback when lining won't work.

Can trenchless repair fix a pipe that's already collapsed?

That's actually the main use case for bursting. A collapsed section can't be lined since there's no shape left to line, but it can still be replaced via bursting.

How much does pipe bursting sewer repair cost?

Cost depends on pipe length and how many access pits the job needs. We confirm the number after assessing the full run on camera.

Will bursting damage nearby landscaping or utilities?

Only at the two access pits, and we locate buried utilities before pulling pipe. The rest of the yard above the pipe path stays untouched.
